IRC
IRC
This page documents the IRC usage, channels, roles, and conventions used in the project. It provides guidance for interacting with channel members, managing access, and linking wiki information to IRC discussions. The aim is to keep IRC interactions organized, productive, and aligned with project workflow.
Channels and Roles
If multiple channels are used in the project, this section lists the commonly used channels and the typical roles present in each. The lobby channel is the main coordination space, while additional channels (such as a bots channel) handle automation and bot-related activity.
#lobby
The lobby is the primary coordination channel for quick discussions, planning, and announcements. Current members in #lobby may include:
- Hanna
- handyc (voice)
- (voice)
- translator
- ken
- mattf
- roks0n
If you wish to ping or invite any of these users, please let me know and I can assist with the appropriate IRC ping or invitation. This section can be updated as membership changes.
For more information about the lobby, see IRC#lobby.
#bots
The bots channel is used to host automated tools and bot interactions. Operators may grant or revoke operator status to bots as needed. Example: a user may receive +o status to manage bot-related tasks.
Ping, invites, and notification etiquette
To notify a user in IRC, use a direct ping (e.g., @nickname in some clients) or an explicit mention in the channel. When inviting a user to a channel, provide a brief reason for the invitation to help newcomers understand the context.
Bot integration and automation
Automated helpers and wiki automation can assist with fetching wiki pages, summarizing topics, and responding to questions. These tools can be invoked by requesting information or by a moderator of the channel.
